GACC, CDD-Ghana implement project
NEWS | GACC News

Members of Local Accountability Networks (LANET) in the Northern Region, have been introduced to the "I Am Aware" project, which aims to enhance improvement in quality public service delivery in the country through an informed citizenry.

The project is an online data portal making relevant information on all sectors of the country, easily accessible in ways that are understood by citizens, policy makers and advocates, as well as public officials to help improve the accountability and responsiveness on the delivery of public goods and services.

The Ghana Anti-corruption Coalition (GACC) in partnership with the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is implementing the project in 28 districts across the country, including West Mamprusi, West Gonja, Savelugu/Nanton Municipality and Tamale Metropolis in the Region.

Mrs Beauty Emefa Narteh, Acting Executive Secretary of GACC, speaking at a district level engagement on the state of public service delivery at Savelugu to introduce members of LANET at Savelugu Municipality to the project, said it would make citizens active participants in the development process of their district assemblies.

LANET is composed of representatives of informal groups in the district assemblies who have the passion to make change in their communities. Mrs Narteh said the decision to introduce LANET members to the project is to enable them to learn how to use the data provided under the project as evidence to engage duty-bearers in their jurisdiction to address their challenges.

She, therefore, urged LANET members and the citizenry to take advantage of the project by using the data to constructively engage their duty-bearers to address their local challenges. Hajia Alima Sagito, Municipal Focal Person of LANET said duty-bearers, most of the time, demand evidence when citizens raise issues regarding developments in their areas, saying the project would arm them with evidence back their claims.
