Empowering First-Time Voters: Voter Education Campaign

As Ghana’s 2024 General Elections approach, the focus on first-time voters is more crucial than ever. These young individuals will play a key role in shaping the future of Ghana’s democracy. It is essential that they understand their responsibility as voters and are encouraged to cast their votes with integrity.

The Youth Voice: Activating First-Time Voters for Ghana’s 2024 General Elections project, implemented by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), with funding support from the US-Embassy Ghana, seeks to provide first-time voters with the knowledge and confidence they need to participate in the electoral process in a responsible way. The campaign includes educational sessions conducted in schools, universities, and communities, where young voters learn about the importance of their vote, the electoral process, and how to vote with integrity.

To amplify its impact, the project has partnered with key state institutions, including the Electoral Commission (EC), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). These collaborations ensure that first-time voters receive accurate information and expert guidance on the voting process and their civic duties.

To reach more young voters, the campaign also incorporates media engagement through radio programs, social media, and partnerships with media personalities. These efforts provide first-time voters with essential information on voter integrity and the electoral process, while offering a platform to ask questions and learn more about their civic responsibilities.

The response from the youth has been incredibly positive, showing just how eager first-time voters are to play their part in strengthening Ghana’s democracy.
