GACC to Commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day 2025 Nationwide

The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) is set to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2025 on December 9, under the global theme: “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.”

This year’s commemoration will place strong emphasis on empowering young people to become champions of integrity by equipping them with knowledge on corruption prevention, whistleblowing, and responsible citizenship. The initiative will engage youth in schools and communities, alongside digital outreach activities, encouraging them to Resist, Reject, and Report corruption.

The focus on youth reflects GACC’s long-standing commitment to nurturing a new generation that values transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership. Young people represent the largest segment of Ghana’s population and remain among those most affected by corruption. At the same time, they possess the creativity, energy, and leadership potential to drive meaningful change.

In 2024, which was an election year, GACC, through its Local Accountability Networks (LANets), implemented youth-focused anti-corruption engagements across 34 districts in 14 regions, reaching approximately 50,000 young people. Activities were held in tertiary institutions, senior high schools, faith-based groups, youth groups, and community organizations. These engagements were supported by a targeted social media campaign that expanded national reach and deepened public dialogue on electoral integrity, vote-buying, and election-related corruption.

Building on this foundation, 2025 marks a major expansion of GACC’s youth campaign. The Coalition is rolling out sensitisation activities in 87 districts across all 16 regions of Ghana, focusing on educating young people about the effects of corruption, promoting whistleblowing, and strengthening civic responsibility among citizens committed to transparency and accountability. Community outreach efforts are being complemented by a nationwide digital campaign to amplify youth voices and spread anti-corruption messages across social media platforms.

Through these engagements, GACC hopes to strengthen youth participation in the anti-corruption movement and inspire young people to take action in promoting integrity in their schools, communities, and everyday lives.

The 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day commemoration is supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, as well as the PAIReD Programme implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
